Lugbara paramount chief Agofe III burial program out

Avutia breathed his last at 5:20 p.m. on Monday, January 23, 2023, at his palace in Mvara, Arua City, at the age of 96. 

The late Agofe III, who assumed the position of paramount chief in 1986 in an acting capacity, was confirmed after the ban on cultural institutions was lifted in 1995.

On January 29, 2023, Agofe III, his highness Jason Avutia, the paramount head of the Lugbara Cultural Institution, will be buried.

The decision for the provisional burial program was made following a drawn-out meeting on Tuesday at his residence in the Zambia zone, Mvara ward, Arua City, between the executive members of the cultural institution and the family members.

A funeral service will be held at Emmanuel Cathedral in Mvara on Friday, and the body will then be transported to his ancestral home in Anyavu parish, Logiri sub-county in Arua district, where burial will take place on Sunday, according to the tentative funeral schedule signed by a family representative, Tom Leni Avutia, on Thursday.
