The Police in Serere district have preferred charges of theft against Aaron Haruna Onai, the LC3 chairperson of Labor sub-county.

The 35-year-old local leader was arrested by the Police on Wednesday this week following a complaint by St Michael Church Atiragot, a Catholic church in Opunoi parish.

The church held a fundraising event on October 4, where Christians auctioned a cow (one million shillings) and a bull (1.7 million shillings).

Onai allegedly stole the cow and bull together with one turkey and two big cocks.
The auction value of all those animals was 3.5 million shillings.

Since then, Onai had reportedly gone into hiding until his arrest on Wednesday following a month of a manhunt.

South Kyoga Police spokesman Stephen Mukombi confirmed that the suspect had been arrested and detained.

He said Onai pleaded for Police bond, which he was granted as the Police finalize the file, before his case is submitted for prosecution.
