HESFB provides loans and scholarships to Ugandan students who have qualified to pursue accredited courses of study or programmes in recognized higher education institution

The list of the student loan scheme beneficiaries has been delayed pending the appointment of new board members for the Higher Education Students Financing Board (HESFB).
Higher education state minister John Chrysostom Muyingo told Parliament on Tuesday that the Government will soon release the list of the beneficiaries.
“The delay was because the term of service of the board had expired. The new board has been appointed and soon the list will be released,” Muyingo said.
HESFB was established in February 2014 by an Act of Parliament (HESFB Act No. 2 of 2014).
HESFB, under the students’ loan scheme, provides loans and scholarships to Ugandan students who have qualified to pursue accredited courses of study or programmes in recognized higher education institutions in Uganda but are unable to support themselves financially.
HESFB director of operations Bbosa Kizito said the call for applications was launched in October since most higher education institutions were already in the process of admissions.
“Proof of admission is one of the key requirements for application to the student loan scheme and most prospective applicants are still in the process of applying for placement at different higher education institutions,” Kizito said.
Rev. Fr Prof. Callisto Locheng, who is the pioneer board chairperson, is an educationalist and a priest with national and international exposure.
Other board members were Legesi Stephen Mwanika, Prof. Christine Dranzoa, Esther Kyozira, William Ndoleriire, Rev. Can. Dr Alex Mugisha Kagume, Dr Jane Egau Okou and Solome Mayinja Luwaga.
