Lions International President expected in Uganda today

The Lions International President, A.P. Singh, is expected to be in Uganda today.

Hosted by Tush Naturinda District Governor 411B, Singh, while in Uganda, will inspect different projects and advance the Lions Club global initiative to grow service and membership.

Singh's entourage includes Past International Director Sangeeta Jatia.

It is the first time Uganda is hosting the sitting Lion's International President.

During his stay, Singh is also expected to meet top government officials, including the Vice President, retired Major Jessica Alupo.

According to a release from the Lions, Singh's visit will highlight impactful initiatives transforming lives across the country, including those supported by the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF).

These include:

-$233,090 Kabarole Lions Secondary Eye Centre (KALSEC) that enhances eye care services in Western Uganda.

-The $85,360 Lions Diabetes Action programme in Lango sub-region.

- The $254,122 Comprehensive Eye Care Project for West Nile communities.

The $1,000,000 School Feeding programme in Karamoja.

The $95,929 Diabetes Management programme in the Greater Kampala Metropolitan Area, among others.

“These projects are powerful examples of how Lions are making a difference. From childhood cancer care to education, eye health, diabetes management, and feeding programmes, Lions in Uganda are helping communities live healthier, more hopeful lives.” President Singh stated.

Brief profile of President Singh

A.P. Singh, of Kolkata, India, has been a Lion since 1984 and a member of the Calcutta Vikas Lions Club.

He was elected as the international president of Lions Clubs during the association’s 107th international convention, held in Orlando, Florida, from July 13 through July 17, 2025.

President Singh is a practising chartered accountant and has family business interests in automobile dealerships.

He has held several positions within the association, including district governor and council chairperson.

He has served as GMT international coordinator for four years and as a member on a number of ad hoc board committees.

He was chairperson for the 2017 DGE seminar in Chicago, USA, and has served as faculty at more than 50 ALLIs/RLLIs, RLLIs, FDIs and LCIP certification programs.

He has also served as multi-national coordinator for Campaign Sight First II, CA leader for Campaign 100, member of the LCIF Steering Committee and as chairperson of the National Sight First Committee of India.

In recognition of his service to the association, President Singh has received numerous awards, including multiple International President’s Awards, as well as the Ambassador of Goodwill Award, the highest honour the association grants its members.

He is a major gift donor for Campaign Sight First II and Campaign 100, and a progressive Melvin Jones Fellow.

In addition to his Lion activities, he has worked on establishing a web-based Lion leadership development platform, a micro-finance program, and has organised multiple large-scale online events to keep Lions engaged.
