"The resolutions that were made in Mbale are illegal because the court ruled that the party office bearers were illegally elected into office including me who had no competitors following the withdrawal of Jude Mbabali from the race,"  Nalukoola said.

KAMPALA - The Democratic Party (DP) national legal advisor Elias Luyimbaazi Nalukoola has asked the party secretary general Gerald Siranda Blacks to convene a special meeting of the stakeholders to discuss the future of the party ahead of the 2026 general elections.

In his letter dated April 18, 2024, penned to Siranda with copies to the party president general Nobert Mao, and the party national executive committee members, Nalukoola opines that it is the special meeting of the party stakeholders that can steer changes including but not limited to organising elections of the new office bearers should the parties in court choose to withdraw all cases.

Nalukoola argues that the court decision in the case of Benedicto Kiwanuka Galiko in which it was declared that the announcement of the party office bearers from a pre-prepared list was illegal, affected all the members of the national executive committee as it encumbers the party leadership.

In the same letter, he also took a swipe at  Mao and other members who attended the party national executive committee meeting which took place in Mbale last week.

"The resolutions that were made in Mbale are illegal because the court ruled that the party office bearers were illegally elected into office including me who had no competitors following the withdrawal of Jude Mbabali from the race,"  Nalukoola said.

When contacted, Siranda said he would bring the petition to the attention of the national executive committee for discussion.
