As thousands of faithful from across Uganda journey to the Uganda Martyrs Shrine in Namugongo, Wakiso district, pilgrims from Lango region have been boosted with financial and material support.
On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, health minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng took a compassionate step to 'walk with the Lango foot pilgrims' who are 1,025, by extending financial and material support.

She started her outreach with a visit to Catholic pilgrims from the Lira Diocese, offering encouragement and supplies to ease the burden of their long, spiritual trek.
Her contributions to the Lira Diocese Catholic pilgrims included:
▪️Shillings one million at Kibanjja, Kiryandongo District on May 21, 2025, specifically for water.
▪️300 kilogrammes of beef, valued at shillings 6,000,000.
▪️200 kilogrammes of rice, worth shillings 900,000.
▪️1,000 bottles of water, valued at shillings 450,000.
▪️Shillings 2,500,000 in support for clergy and religious leaders, including priests, sisters, and deacons.

This brings the total value of support to Catholic pilgrims to shillings 10,850,000. Aceng also pledged first aid services at Matugga and a brass band to ceremoniously usher the pilgrims into Namugongo, adding both care and celebration to their final steps.
Anglican pilgrim support
Aceng on Thursday also supported Anglican pilgrims from both Lango and West Lango dioceses. She first met them at Kigogwa, along Bombo Road, where they rested, and later joined them at St Stephen Lwadda Parish, where the pilgrims were warmly received and sheltered.
To these 420 Anglican pilgrims, Aceng delivered:
▪️Shillings 1,000,000 at Bombo on Wednesday.
▪️100 kilogrammes of beef.
▪️100 kilogrammes of rice.
▪️Seven large fresh fish, catering for pilgrims who do not eat meat.
▪️84 cartons of bottled water.

Other leaders have also stepped in to offer support to the pilgrims.
Kole Woman MP Santa Alum Ogwang donated shillings two million, while gender minister Betty Amongi Ongom contributed the same amount in support of the Lira Diocese pilgrims.
