A 47-year-old man in the Rwentuha sub-county, Kyegegwa district, has been arrested by the police over the murder of his wife.

Innocent Kibwetere is accused of having murdered Twikirize Ronious on November 11, 2022.

“On the night of November 11, 2022, at about midnight, Kibwetere was heard by his neighbors fighting with his wife, Twikirize, in a rented bedsit at Kayembe-Bujunjura trading center,” Rwenzori region Police spokesperson Vincent Twesigye told New Vision today, November 17, 2022.

Twesigye added that on the following day, November 12, 2022, neighbors saw Kibwetere’s house closed but thought that the couple had gone to the garden for the whole day.

However, their house remained closed even on November 13, something that caused concern and suspicion among the neighbors.

“Neighbors and the local leaders started getting concerned and calling on Kibwetere's number, but he would deceive them that he was with his wife in the garden,” Twesigye said.

On November 14, Kyomukama, the sister of the deceased, telephoned Kibwetere, but he did not answer the phone call, according to the police.

It was at lunchtime on November 15 when Kibwetere allegedly contacted Kyomukama and narrated the ordeal.

“Kibwetere called on the number of his in-law, Kyomukama, and allegedly confessed to murdering his wife and that he was hiding in their house together with the dead body,” Twesigye said.

Information was given to village chairperson Tukundane Coleb, who also contacted the Kazinga Police Post.

“The police responded, and on opening the bedsit that Kibwetere was renting, he (Kibwetere) was found inside the room sleeping with the dead body of his wife,” Twesigye said.

He added that the police have preferred charges of murder by assault against Kibwetere.
