WBF International Heavyweight Title

W. Kyakonye (UGA) v G. Auriemma (ITA)

Saturday, March 30th, Utrecht, Netherlands

Netherlands-based Willy ‘The Ring’ Kyakonye is confident of landing the World Boxing Federation (WBF) International heavyweight title on Saturday.

In what looks to be the fight of his career, Kyakonye takes on Italian Giovanni Auriemma at the Grand Sports Club Wilnis Arena in Utrecht City, Netherlands.

Dubbed the Evolution of Boxing, both corners vow to entertain fans while trading blows, jabs, and hooks in a marathon 10-round thriller.

“I’m going to crucify this Italian. He is going to understand that he chose the wrong opponent. Saturday is a day to reckon. A day which is so far the most important in my life,” Kyakonye told Vision Sports.

“Giovanni must come in this fight well knowing that I’m going to take his soul and his spirit to the Lord. I’m ready for war. I can’t wait to be on the battlefront line."

Kyakonye is striving to join USA-based Sulaiman Segawa as the only current Ugandan boxer in the diaspora to hold prestigious international titles.

In September 2023, Segawa defended his WBC-USA featherweight title with a unanimous points decision victory over Ghana’s Prince Dzanie and currently tops the world’s pound-for-pound rankings of Ugandan boxers.

Known as one of the deadliest hard punchers during his days at the national boxing team ‘The Bombers between 2008 and 2016, Kyakonye comes into this fight without thinking of an upset.

A 2015 Africa Boxing Championship bronze medalist and the only Ugandan boxer to punch his weight at the World Series of Boxing (WSB) between 2014 and 2016, Kyakonye comes into this one having lost none of his ten fights in the paid ranks since his debut in 2017.

The former Lukanga Boxing Club pugilist who has been in intense training for the last four months at Kyoku Boxing gym in Amsterdam is confident to leave no stone unturned against Auriemma.

“I’m going to give Auriemma no chance of getting close to my belt. I call it my belt because it is already mine. My fans must expect no mercy from me against this Italian,” he said.

While Kyakonye holds a 10-0-0 ring record knocking out his last two opponents in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Nikola Mrda and Georgia’s Abuladze Soso, Auriemma will have a mountain to climb if he is to defeat the gigantic Ugandan heavyweight.
