JINJA – The Kyabazinga (Busoga king) William Gabula Nadiope IV hosted Algeria’s Ambassador to Uganda, Mourad Amokrane, at the Igenge Palace in Jinja city. During the February 4, 2026, meeting, both sides pledged to deepen co-operation in education, culture, agriculture, health and trade.

Welcoming the delegation, the Kyabazinga hailed Algeria’s longstanding support for Ugandans, particularly through university scholarships, and called for expanded collaboration that would benefit the people of Busoga.

He noted opportunities in cultural exchanges, education partnerships and language training, especially in French to empower Busoga’s youth for global engagement.

“We are grateful to have you here today and to continue strengthening relations between our kingdom and your country,” the Kyabazinga said, emphasising the potential for joint programmes in health, agriculture and education.

“If we continue working together, we shall be in position to have cultural exchange programmes and education programmes. We believe that the closer we have our relationships, we shall be in position to benchmark and work with you to ensure that we have more of our students attending education,” he added.

He also encouraged initiatives to help Basoga become multilingual, noting that language skills would enable wider participation in global affairs.

Amokrane lauded the rich cultural heritage of Busoga and drew parallels with Algeria’s own diversity and traditions.

He congratulated the people and government of Uganda on the successful conduct of general election and emphasised Algeria’s commitment to peace, stability and development in the region.

Source of light and progress

“Algeria is proud to support Uganda in various sectors, including education, agriculture and trade, enhancing our bilateral ties,” Amokrane said.

He highlighted the growing number of Ugandan students pursuing higher education in Algerian universities, calling the student exchanges a human bridge very important for the sustainability of fraternity and friendship between the two nations.

Investing in the training of men and women, he added, is a source of light, progress and development.

Uganda’s Ambassador to Algeria, Julius Joshua Kivuna, affirmed his personal connection to Busoga and expressed readiness to facilitate concrete arrangements discussed with the King of Busoga to foster co-operation between the Kingdom and Algeria.

“We have so many areas we can share with Algeria, we look for areas where we shall see how we foster co-operation between the Kingdom and Algeria,” Kivuna said, thanking the Kyabazinga for his leadership and support.

The Algerian Ambassador was accompanied by his deputy, Habib Chabbi, Kivuna and Michael Bulyenali.

Upon arrival, the delegation was received by Busoga permanent secretary Godfrey Ssajjabi Samanya, alongside finance state minister Ivan Kiirya. Also present were Martin Tibalira Musomesa and Robinah, an advisor to the Kingdom.

Later, the king and Ambassador Amokrane exchanged gifts.

The visit highlighted a shared desire to translate historical goodwill into practical co-operation, expanding scholarships, strengthening cultural diplomacy, and pursuing sector partnerships that can deliver tangible benefits to communities in Busoga and across Uganda.

Both sides expressed optimism that follow-on engagements would consolidate the emerging roadmap for collaboration.
