A routine enforcement of trade order regulations in Kumi Municipality descended into chaos on Monday, March 30, 2026, after a confrontation between the mayor and municipal engineers disrupted the exercise.
The operation began calmly at around 10:00 am, with authorities demolishing kiosks and containers along Pallisa Road using a bulldozer.

Ochom accused officials of selective enforcement and ignoring his request for more time.

Principal executive engineer Hendry Matega dismissed the mayor’s claims, stating that all stakeholders, including the mayor, had earlier agreed on the enforcement plan.
Traders comply amid frustration
Affected traders, though distressed, complied with the directive, acknowledging it as an official order from the Ministry of Local Government.
Kumi municipal town clerk Emmanuel Okaja urged residents to cooperate, emphasising that all trading areas have been officially gazetted.

Authorities say the operation will continue across the municipality as they monitor compliance with trade regulations aimed at restoring order in urban spaces.
