KAMPALA - Some MPs have said the laxity of police commanders made it easy for the alleged terrorists to bomb an eating point in Komamboga, a Kampala suburb.

The bomb, which police said was an improvised device made from nails and other metal fragments, went off on Saturday night, killing one person and injuring three others.

Jonathan Odur, the Erute South MP, asked that the commanders who were in charge of the area be arrested and dealt with appropriately to assure the public that the police are in charge.

He made the call, Wednesday, during the plenary session presided over by Speaker, Jacob Oulanyah

Internal affairs state minister Gen David Muhoozi addressed the House on the incidents of these two bomb explosions in Komamboga and on a Swift Safaris Bus along Kampala-Masaka highway.

He said that security services were following all the leads in both incidents in order to apprehend the culprits.

“I want to say that terrorism is a threat to all. It is indiscriminate. We need everyone in the fight,” he said.

The Kampala Metropolitan police commander, Stephen Tanui, recently faulted the area police officers and their commanders for looking on as people violated curfew regulations.

“The directives are very clear, no one should be in the bar or any place past 7:00 pm. But because of reluctant officers, these places were open. Now they will start giving excuses on this and that. But this unwillingness is very unacceptable in the police," he said.
