Over 1,500 women from Uganda, Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria and several other African countries are gearing up to attend the ‘Mantle of Deborah builder's conference’ taking place at Kololo Independence grounds today (March 9, 2024) from 9am to 4pm.

The Christian gathering that comes a day after the Women’s Day celebrations is focused on empowering women. The event is in partnership with different organizers including the Office of the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni.

During a press interview on Thursday, Irene Kauma, the Under Secretary and Senior Private Secretary to the First Lady said the gathering will focus on the bible book of Judges chapters four and five which captures Deborah as a judge, mother, wife, and prophetess who goes out of her way to help the nation of Israel come out of oppression from its enemies.

Kauma who was flanked by Rev Harriet Nyamu, the lead mantle of Deborah East Africa called on women to rise to the occasion and enter their calling to carry the mandate for women to eradicate poverty and improve their self-esteem during such unpredictable times.

She said that the conference is open to everyone, men inclusive.

Nyamu revealed that the guest of honour, Pastor Isi Igenegba from Nigeria will share several testimonies and also speak and will share insights on successful projects that impact women in Africa.

Igenegba is already involved in a non-profit organization known as Deborah’s Impact Projects Africa which was set up to socially, economically and spiritually elevate the lives of African women in Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, south Africa and North America.

In Kenya, Igenegba has a project in Malindi, a transformation hub where young girls subjected to early childhood marriages are rescued.

The hub has a specialized vocational training school and a maternal care center which are all still in the process of being constructed.

Nyamu said that Uganda being a pearl of Africa was now the focus of attention since many high-level conferences such as the Commonwealth Speaker Conference, the 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit, the G77 3rd South Summit and Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) meetings had all occurred in the first quarter of the year.

‘Uganda is the strongman for Africa. The Torch is on Uganda, that's why we are holding this conference,” Nyamu added.
