KAMPALA - Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson SP Patrick Onyango has said 12 people have been confirmed dead, 10 retrieved alive following the Lusanja Kiteezi landfill slide.
"By 5:00pm, we had recovered 12 dead bodies and 10 alive. We are still going to continue with the search and no place will be left unturned," Onyango said.
He noted that the landfill has been closed for a while until further notice, adding that those who have been displaced are to be relocated.

"We estimate over 1000 people to have been displaced by the garbage slide. We are to sit with the local authorities and landlords to see how many people have been buried, " Onyango said.
He said, "By this time we do not expect anybody to still be alive in the garbage slide but by around 2:00pm, a dog was rescued alive. You never know what may happen because miracles happen," Onyango stressed.
