Kiruhura man killed over failure to pay bride price, two arrested

KIRUHURA - Police in Kiruhura district have detained two people and are hunting for three others over the murder of their in-law after he allegedly failed to pay bride price.
Those arrested are Margaret Kendere and Ronald Bakashaba, while those being hunted are Grace Namara, Allen Ikiriza and James Amupire.
Police spokesperson Fred Enanga on Monday said the group allegedly ganged up against Kwizera Emmanuel, 35, and beat him over refusal to pay bride price.
The deceased was a resident of Rwomuti village in Rugonji parish, Kiruhura district.
"He had gone to pick up his 'wife' who had gone home the previous day," Enanga said, adding that the body was recovered from one of the dams in Katete cell on the farm of Rwakashuji George.
Police said efforts are in place to find the other siblings who allegedly participated in the murder and have them charged.
Murder is a capital offence in Uganda and carries a maximum sentence of death.
