Dancehall artiste King Michael has asked that the sh13b funds pledged by the Government through finance state minister Haruna Kyeyune Kasolo to support musicians be allocated to emerging talents and be disbursed as loans to facilitate their career advancement.

During a telephone interview held on March 8, 2024, the singer recommended that the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), under singer Eddy Kenzo's leadership, is entrusted with managing the distribution of funds.

King Michael, real name Michael Mugwanya,  also suggested that UNMF collaborates with the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA), under Cindy Sanyu.

He emphasised that UMA has demonstrated expertise, particularly after receiving training on monetising music during a session hosted by Operation Wealth Creation chief coordinator Gen Salim Saleh in Gulu in 2020.

"I once had the opportunity to attend a meeting of Kenzo's federation, where I listened to their discussions. During the meeting, I heard them express their determination to continue their efforts, regardless of whether UMA chooses to join them or not. They emphasised the value of UMA's established structures, acknowledging their longstanding presence and understanding of the specific needs of emerging artistes across various regions of the country," King Michael said.
 
He noted that UMA was tasked with visiting regions nationwide to support emerging artistes, acknowledging that the previously allocated funds were insufficient to meet their needs.

King Michael stressed that a collaborative effort between both bodies would be instrumental in achieving the overarching goal of enhancing the welfare and development of all artists in Uganda.
