The Police Flying Squad under the Directorate of Crime Intelligence, in collaboration with the operatives from the Defence Intelligence Unit, on Friday, March 13, 2026, recovered the body of a four-year-old baby boy, who was allegedly kidnapped from his parents' home in Nalutete, Kigando subcounty, in Mubende district.

The Wamala regional Police spokesperson, Lameck Kigozi, identified the deceased as Daniel Kazungu, a son of Eric Baingana.

According to the police, the perpetrator, identified as Emmanuel Muwanguzi, of Kisonde cell in Rwigo Parish in Kibaale district, reportedly confessed to kidnapping and murder. It is reported that he later dumped the body in a pit latrine in a homestead in Nalutete village.

Baingana, in his statement to the police, states that he realised that his son was missing after he went to wake up his children to go to school at around 5am. His siblings, he added, expressed ignorance about Kazungu's whereabouts.

Investigations indicate that the family obliged to the kidnapper's ransom demands by depositing sh1m, out of the sh6m ransom to the perpetrator's telephone line, hoping for Kazungu's freedom, only to discover that the child had already been killed.

According to Kigozi, the Flying squad team tracked and smoked the suspected kidnapper from Kibaati, a Kampala city suburb, located in Kansanga, Makindye Division.

Upon arrest, Muwanguzi led the detectives to the latrine, from where the victim's body was retrieved, on Friday, March 13, by the police fire Brigade.

The suspect facing murder charges remains in detention.
