Kibuku police probe mob killing over alleged sheep theft

Police in Kibuku district are investigating a revenge attack that left a man dead after he was accused of stealing a sheep.

Wilfred Kyempasa, the police spokesperson for Bukedi North, identified the deceased in Kibuku as Musa Kalenzi, 38, a peasant resident of Bukalijo cell in Tirinyi Town Council.

Kalenzi was allegedly found in possession of a brown sheep early on April 26, 2025, and was attacked by an irate group of villagers who accused him of being a repeat offender. He died at the scene.

Police recovered the sheep, which had been tied to Kalenzi’s leg, along with a damaged mobile phone. A murder investigation has been opened at Kibuku Central Police Station, and inquiries are ongoing.

Stolen cattle recovered 

Meanwhile, in Kaabong district, security forces comprising the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) recovered 14 stolen cattle during an operation at Sokomej Crossing Point in Lobongia. 

The recovery followed an armed clash with suspected cattle raiders, according to IP Mike Longole, the Police Spokesperson for Mt Moroto Region and ASTU.

The recovered cattle are currently being held at Kakamar holding ground pending verification and handover to their rightful owners.
