The Electoral Commission (EC) has concluded the two-day nominations of Kawempe North candidates.
During day one of the nominations, the EC returning officer designate, Henry Makabayi, nominated Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) candidate Sadat Mukiibi aka Khalifah, National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Erias Luyimbazi Nalukoola, Muhammed Lusswa Luwemba and Hanifa Karadi Murewa who are both independent candidates.
DP candidate Henry Kasacca was also nominated today.
On the second day, Makabayi nominated Faridah Nambi from the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Henry Kasacca Mubiru from the Democratic Party (DP), Ismail Musiitwa from the People’s Progressive Party (PPP), Muhamood Mutazindwa, Moses Nsereko and Stanley Edward Maitum Engena who are both independent candidates.

All the ten nominated candidates seek to replace the fallen Kawempe North Member of Parliament Muhammad Ssegirinya who died earlier this year after being bedridden for so long.
While addressing the media at the Kawempe-based EC offices, Makabayi revealed that they had registered six more candidates on top of the other four candidates that were nominated on the first day, adding that although more than 12 aspirants had picked up the nomination forms, some decided to withdraw from the race.

“The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) candidate Moses Ntenge Nduga was here yesterday (Wednesday) and sent one of the EC officials informing me (Makabayi) that they had withdrawn from the race and they were not going to contest,” Makabayi revealed.

He further revealed that EC received a petition from the Uganda Federal Alliance (UFA) against the nomination of their candidate Fahad Kayondo.

“Given that there is a petition from the UFA party about their candidate, we have advised the candidate (Kayondo) that if he is really key on contesting in the election, the only option available for him is to contest as an independent candidate,” Makabayi said.
By press time, Kayondo was still at the EC making several phone calls.
Makabayi revealed that one of the aspirants Hamuza Ddamulira arrived at the EC offices for nominations without paying the nomination fee of sh3m adding that the nomination fee is paid to Uganda Revenue Authority as non-tax revenue.

The candidates are expected to start their campaign on 28 February - 11 March. They will hold campaigns and on March 13, there will be conducting of elections and announcing the winner of the elections.
