He encouraged parents in the region to invest in education for their children, noting that education is the actual tool and genuine factor of liberation, especially for Africa.
“When people talk about liberation, they think about liberation in Africa, they think about guns, it's the only education that can truly and genuinely liberate you,” Mayige stated.
The engagement focused on socio-economic development, cultural exchanges and agriculture.
Mayiga, who was accompanied by other leaders from the Kingdom, tasked the new leaders to always keep people informed, especially in line with the implementation of Kingdom programs and ensure people keep connected to their cultural heritage and identity.
He urged students who belong to Nkobazambogo to be among the best performers in their respective fields. “Make yourself useful where you are, make it difficult for anyone not to be your friend, usefulness is the most profound stage in anyone’s life,” Mayige stated.
He hailed innovation at Mbarara University of Science and Technology.
Prof. Joseph Ngonzi, the deputy vice chancellor in charge of academic affairs at Mbarara University of Science and Technology, appealed to the Buganda Kingdom through Katikiro Mayiga, to partner with the University in addressing pressing needs that are affecting people and communities.
“Buganda Kingdom is not a Kingdom of yesterday, we studied Buganda Kingdom, we were examined, we do acknowledge the contribution of Buganda Kingdom to the liberation of this nation from centuries back,” Ngonzi stated.
Ngonzi encouraged students to draw inspiration from the leadership of the Buganda Kingdom, including Katikiro Peter Mayiga.
