Vice President Jessica Alupo has announced the readiness of her home district to host the national celebrations to mark International Women's Day on Friday.
Addressing the press at her home on Thursday, March 7, Alupo who is the Katakwi District woman MP, said that President Yoweri Museveni is going to be the chief guest.

Prison wardens rehashing a head of tomorrow's function.
“I want to assure all the guests coming for the celebrations that the security situation is one hundred percent safe. Nobody should worry because Katakwi and the entire Teso is peaceful,” Alupo said.
The celebration held under the theme “Accelerating gender equality for women's economic empowerment” is the theme for the celebrations.
Alupo said the theme resonates very well with the need to bring up all the women, especially at the grassroots to participate in the economic transformation of our country.
“The theme speaks volumes in the light of the fact that an empowered woman can enhance the human resource development of the girl child and boy child,” Alupo said.
She explained that empowering a woman should not be viewed as sidelining the men but empowering her so that her contribution to nation-building is realised together with the men.
She hailed President Museveni for being the champion of women's empowerment.
“He became the first president in the world to name a woman a vice president and has continued lifting up women in senior positions in the country,” Alupo remarked.
Alupo at the press briefing was flanked by women leaders who consisted of serving women MPs, former ministers, and former MPs.
The women led by the former government chief whip Kabakumba Masiko, donated to Katakwi district sanitary pads for supporting the girl child while at school.
They also donated 1,500,000 plants to the women operating in restaurants as one way of giving back.
The celebrations to be held at Katakwi boma ground are expected to be attended by 20,000 people.
“All the guests shall be treated to lunch that the state has offered for all the guests coming,” said Usuk County MP Bosco Okiror.
Police, prisons and army officers have been busy rehashing as levelling of the ground was also being done.
