The peak of the scramble to share sh10,000 among five youth in Kamuli Municipality in Kamuli district ended with one of them losing his life to a sharp knife, marking an ugly ending to the Mayoral elections.
Moses Mukembo, 24, described as a member of the "ghetto youth", was stabbed by a colleague identified as “Masiri,” as they fought to share the sh5,000 which the latter was taking off with.
The incident occurred in Buwenge Mpya zone, Kasoigo ward, near KK Pub during the Mayoral Elections, when Masiri stabbed Mukembo in the chest using a sharp knife as he protested releasing the latter’s share.
Witnesses reported that the money had been distributed by the candidate who was running for the Kasoigo ward councillor.
“The blow in the chest forced a gush of blood, before the victim collapsed to the ground with a thud,” said Moses Baslikoowa, a businessman who saw death descending on the young man.
Busoga North Police spokesperson, Samson Lubega, said that the deceased recently relocated from Nawansaso village in Kitaynjwa subcounty to look for fortune and a better life in Kamuli town.
Lubega said the Police are hunting for the assailant who took off and vanished after the attack.
In other areas, according to security, the elections were calm despite the low turnout.
