The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has temporarily closed Seventh Street in the Industrial Area for three days, starting today (February 7, 2025) and ending Sunday.
It has consequently diverted all traffic to Sixth and Eight streets until the works are fixed.
In a statement issued by KCCA executive director Hajati Sharifah Buzeki, all motorists have been advised to use alternative roads to give a chance to the contractors to fix culverts as part of the ongoing construction.
“KCCA wishes to inform the general public of total road closure and traffic diversion along 7th Street to enable the contractor to carry out cross culvert works from Friday 07, 2025 to Sunday 9th,” Buzeki said.
Motorists have been given alternative routes including the Sixth and Eighth Streets, Spring and Mutabazi roads.
Buzeki appealed to the road users to strictly adhere to the guidance of traffic marshals, flagmen and diversion signage for smooth traffic flow.
She explained that KCCA was carrying out several other constructions across the city, and said traffic flow has been affected in these areas, but asked the public to follow the guidelines to avoid inconveniences.
The ongoing constructions almost in all four divisions of Kampala city are being executed at shillings 1.057 trillion ($288m), a loan from the African Development Bank.
Other ongoing constructions in the city, include Wamala Road, Luwafu, Kabega, Muteesa I, Old Mubende, Kigala Road, Kivebulaya Junction, Bulange Junction, Kayembe Road, Port Bell Road in Nakawa and Spring Road.
