Kampala Metropolitan Police at Kabalagala are holding a school director who allegedly confined five Senior Four students over failure to pay school fees.

Celestine Kasolo, the director of Kisugu High School in Kampala city's Makindye municipality, is being detained at Kabalaga Police Station.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson Luke Oweyesigyire, it is alleged that on October 26, 2023, during the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations, the four students were unlawfully confined in one room.

He identified the victims as Ojiambo Robert, Almahad Sadiq, Onyango Calvin, Orionzi Nicholas, and Mandiko Simon Peter.

Owoyesigyire said the confinement was also due to allegations of unruly behaviour by the students.

Owoyesigyire made the revelations on Monday and said Kasolo would soon be produced in court.

Third week of UCE exams

The UCE examinations enter their third week as the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) geared up for the imminent Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) set to commence on November 7, 2023, with a meticulous briefing of district monitors already in progress.

UNEB spokesperson Jennifer Kalule Musamba on Monday said with the delivery of examination papers across the country, candidates have been diligently navigating their compulsory subjects, culminating in the ongoing English Papers 1 and 2, marking the tail end of the mandatory subjects.

She said In the pursuit of exam integrity, UNEB lauds the public for adhering to the whistle blower's policy, which led to the exposure of malpractice cases. Notably, whistle-blowers' information facilitated the arrest and subsequent legal action against individuals involved in unauthorized vending of UNEB examination materials.

In recent legal proceedings, suspects apprehended for unauthorized possession and electronic vending of purported PLE papers faced court charges.
