KAMPALA - The Inspectorate of Government (IG) has arrested the Principal of the National Teachers’ College, Kaliro district, Evelyn Grace Lanyero, over allegedly causing financial loss of over shillings 120 million to the Government.
Lanyero, 51, is today, (May 23, 2025) expected to be arraigned at the Anti-Corruption Court in Kampala to answer charges of abuse of office and causing financial loss.
Her co-accused, Clement Epalat Okiria, 54, an accountant of the College, is still at large.
IG alleges that the accused in November 2022, in Kaliro district, irregularly effected payment of shillings 120.9 million to Nissi Restaurant and Take Away for meals and refreshments for participants in an information communications technology retooling workshop.
According to IG, the duo allegedly committed the act knowing or having reason to believe that their actions would cause financial loss to the Government.
The IG also alleges that the accused between November 2022 and January 2023, in Kaliro district, irregularly processed payment of shillings 12 million as Withholding Tax to Uganda Revenue Authority (URA), knowing or having reason to believe that his action would cause financial loss to the Government.
The IG further purports that the duo did an arbitrary act, in abuse of the authority of their respective offices and to the prejudice of the Government when they irregularly obtained a loan facility of shillings 45 million from Stanbic bank on behalf of Kaliro National Teachers College and caused loss of the said amount.
