The Kalangala District Woman MP on the National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket, Helen Nakimuli, has died while undergoing surgery.
She died aged 41 on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at Alexandra medical centre in Kitante during a procedure that had not yet been disclosed.
The Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Joel Ssenyonyi, said on X that he had spoken to Nakimuli regarding a meeting of Opposition MPs planned for Monday, April 20, 2026, which she was coordinating as shadow information minister.
“At the time, she was literally driving herself to hospital for a surgery, which she indicated was not major. Unfortunately, she has not made it out of theatre. She has died during the procedure,” he said in a post.
Nakimuli, who was re-elected in the January 15, 2026, general election, was also a sportswoman and known for her lively personality.
