JINJA - Jinja City Mayor Alton Peter Kasolo has received a consignment of goods and sh2 million from Kakira Sugar Limited (KSL), towards the mayor's Christmas alms to the orphans and vulnerable people in Jinja City.

The items including boxes of sugar and assorted Kakira sweets were handed over to Kasolo by KSL Joint Managing Directors Mayur Madhvani and Kamlesh Madhvani, who were accompanied by the Company Secretary, S.K. Iyengar and KSL General Manager Christian Vickie, while at the factory on Thursday.

It’s the norm that during Christmas, the mayor gives alms to street children, patients in Jinja Hospital, orphanages, and the destitute home in Mpumudde. 

Industrialists and the business community contributed some of the items.

In his remarks, while handing over the items to the mayor, Kakira Sugar Limited’s Joint Managing director, Mayur Madhvani, said that they all need to celebrate every Christmas and Kakira is part of the community and that is why they donate to the less privileged members of the community during the festive season.

The Mayor of Jinja, Peter Kasolo, who received the items was thankful to Kakira Sugar Limited for the Christmas donation and appreciated the work done by the Madhvani group.

“I am so pleased to inform the people of Jinja City that our working relationship majorly in development and social-economic transformation of our area in Jinja City is continuing to grow with our partners majorly Madhvani Group of Companies, who have been with us for years,” Kasolo said.

He added that many people in the Jinja Community need such support and, therefore, they are going to distribute it to the elderly, destitute, orphans, and people with disabilities.

Kasolo urged other industrialists and investors in Jinja City to copy a leaf from Kakira Sugar Limited and give back to the less privileged during this Christmas season.

He said they will reach out to the less privileged in Jinja Southern East division and Jinja Northern division and distribute the items to them however little they are.
