MAYUGE - The campaign to re-elect President Yoweri Museveni in the upcoming general elections gained significant momentum in the Busoga sub-region earlier today as First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, officially launched the Busoga Sub-region Task Force.
The task force has been tasked to ensure President Museveni secures a massive 90% of the votes from the Busoga sub-region in the January 15, 2026, general elections.
The high-stakes event took place at Kadaga's Century Resort Hotel in Kyando village, Mayuge district, on Saturday, November 8, 2025.
In her address, Kadaga underscored the strategic importance of the launch, stating, "I officially flag you off to mobilise efforts in support for President Yoweri Museveni ahead of the January 15, 2026, general elections."

She described the event as a critical moment for rallying grassroots support and reinforcing the National Resistance Movement's (NRM) commitment to development in Busoga.
Kadaga was flanked by a powerful delegation including: State Minister for Lands and Housing, Persis Namuganza; State Minister for Agriculture, Fred Bwino Kyakulaga; Busoga Kingdom's Minister of Tourism, Princes Hellen Namutamba Naiwumbwe; some Members of Parliament from Busoga, various LC 5 district chairpersons and cultural leaders.

Protecting the gains: development focus
Echoing the NRM slogan, "Protecting the Gains," Kadaga highlighted key development achievements in the sub-region that the task force must safeguard and promote, which included the Source of the Nile Bridge in Jinja, various Tourism sites along the River Nile, Minerals in the region and recently tarmacked roads.
She also committed to significantly boosting the Agriculture and Tourism sectors in Busoga, directly referencing the NRM Manifesto as the blueprint for future development.
Boosting tourism and creative sectors
Princess Hellen Namutamba Naiwumbwe's remarks offered insight into financial commitments aimed at development in the region.
She confirmed President Museveni's commitment of finance the Busoga Artists and Musician Network.
Furthermore, she detailed plans for infrastructure to support the creative arts, which included the establishment of an audio and video studio that will be freely available to all creatives in the region.
Namutamba also confirmed that the President had approved more funds to assist Busoga tourism queens under the Busoga Kingdom’s Ministry of Tourism.
The launch sets the stage for intensive campaigning across the sub-region, with the task force immediately commencing its efforts to deliver a decisive victory for President Museveni.
