Justice Abodo tells new DPP Anguzu to remain firm, grounded in law

KAMPALA - Former Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Jane Frances Abodo has officially handed over the office to Lino Anguzu, with a call for him to remain firm and grounded in the law. Anguzu has been assistant DPP since February 2019.

The November 18, 2025, handover ceremony at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) offices in Kampala city was conducted by and was overseen by ODPP permanent secretary Agnes Kainza Nzogi, in line with Public Service Standing Orders. Members of the top and senior management teams witnessed the ceremony.

Anguzu was recently appointed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, following Justice Abodo’s appointment to the office of the Principal Judge.

Justice Jane Okuo Kajuga had been the Principal Judge in acting capacity ever since Justice Flavian Zeija was appointed Deputy Chief Justice by President Museveni following the retirement of Richard Buteera from the Judiciary.

Speaking during the handover, Abodo congratulated Anguzu on his new role and welcomed him to the leadership of the ODPP.

She commended the President’s decision to appoint a career prosecutor, noting that his background would be instrumental as he takes on the responsibilities of the office.

He congratulated her on her new appointment as Principal Judge and wished her success.
Anguzu also acknowledged the guidance he has received from top management, noting their contribution to his professional growth.

He outlined his leadership focus, anchored on what he termed the “3 Ds”: Devotion to God and hard work, discipline and dedication to duty, as the ODPP advances its five-year strategic plan.

Permanent Secretary Nzogi welcomed the new DPP on behalf of the staff and pledged their full support during his tenure. She also thanked Abodo for her exemplary service and stewardship of the institution.

“Today’s ceremony marks a significant milestone for the ODPP as it embarks on a new chapter in strengthening professional, responsive, and trusted prosecution services to support national development,” she said.
