The Julius Nyerere Leadership Centre has installed a new board of directors headed by Prof. Kasozi Mulindwa.

The new board was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor of Makerere University, Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe.

The board members include Prof. Josephine Ahikire, Prof. Edward Kirumira, Assoc. Prof. Gerald Karyeija, Assoc. Prof. Proscovia Namubiru Ssentamu, Assoc. Prof. Sarah Ssali, Dr Nansozi Muwanga the executive director, Andrew Tumusiime and Esteri Mugurwa Akandwanaho as board secretary.

The Julius Nyerere Leadership Centre, an initiative of President Yoweri Museveni, was established in 2018 to train youth for leadership positions.

The centre is named after the former Tanzanian president, Julius Nyerere, a popular leader who led his country to independence and transferred power peacefully.

Speaking during the board’s inauguration at Makerere University, Nawangwe encouraged the new board headed by Prof. Mulindwa to train all categories of people in leadership.

He observed that the majority of people who are appointed to lead institutions both in private and public have fallen short of leadership skills.

Nawangwe also called upon the new board to establish a research centre.

Mulindwa commended Makerere University for providing the regulatory framework and assured the management that his team will exercise transparency and accountability.

The inauguration function was attended by the director general of Uganda Management Institute, Dr James Nkata.

The executive director of Julius Nyerere Leadership Centre, Dr Nansozi Muwanga informed the guests that the centre was grappling with a lack of funding.
