The Jopadhola cultural leader in Tororo district, Stephen Owori, has appointed the emeritus chairman general of the National Organisation of Trade Unions, Usher Owere, as the third deputy prime minister.

The news of Owere’s appointment by the 98-year-old leader was announced on social media on Saturday, May 11.

“I am humbled,” Owere, who has been Kwar Adhola’s ambassador to the Entebbe region and the diaspora, told his followers on X, formerly Twitter.

It is said that the Tieng Adhola institution transformed from simple beginnings to the final installation of Owori in 1999.

“It removed the people of Padhola from oblivion and placed them conspicuously on the map of Uganda, Africa and the world at large as a people with solidarity, determination, common destiny and vision,” Owori said while celebrating his 20th anniversary in August 2019.

At the celebrations, he called for unity, saying it is the key to bringing development to Padhola.

He also thanked President Yoweri Museveni and his government for supporting the institution over the years.

He, however, challenged the Jopadhola to end land fragmentation, which he said had made it difficult for large-scale commercial agriculture to be undertaken in Padhola.

“The culture of dividing land into small plots to the children of the deceased has led to serious fragmentation of Land, which now on average stands at less than an acre per household. This makes it difficult for large-scale commercial agriculture to be undertaken in Padhola,” he said.
