Joint security forces say they have recovered an illegal firearm following a co-ordinated intelligence-led operation conducted on November 18, 2025, in Kotido district.
Mountain Moroto/Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU) spokesperson Mike Longole said the operation, conducted at about 11:00am, led to the recovery of an SMG rifle, registration number ZA-3191, with one round of ammunition.
According to Longole, the recovery followed actionable intelligence that guided ASTU and army teams to impound 40 heads of cattle belonging to the family of a man identified as Logela.
The impounding exerted pressure on the family through the office of the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), prompting the eventual surrender of the illegal firearm.
Security officials said the gun has since been transferred to Government Stores for further management, while the recovered cattle were handed back to their rightful owners.
One suspect, Nayiang Alemukori Dokito, a resident of Nakongchua Village in Maaru Subcounty, is currently in custody to assist detectives in ongoing investigations.
Longole also noted that such recoveries contribute significantly to reducing armed criminality in the Karamoja sub-region.
