Is Uganda ready to handle oil spills?

“It smelt like paraffin,” he says. As the spill moved from Kibiro hotsprings to the nearby Lake Albert, it eroded the vegetation, leaving behind heaps of clay, mud and hydrocarbons. The grass at the lake shores had a dark coating, suggesting that there were oil residues in the spillage. This lasted for about a day, creating fear and panic in the village of 1,200 people, says Kiiza. 

One litre of oil spill can contaminate up to one million litres of water, according to the Greening The Blue report.
