The assistant inventory management officer for Kamwenge district, accused of failing to account for drugs worth sh387 million, has been committed to the High Court for trial.

On March 31, 2026, the Anti-Corruption Court in Nakasero, presided over by Principal Grade One Magistrate Pius Mujuni, committed Alson Muhwezi to the Anti-Corruption Division of the High Court.

The committal followed submissions by state attorney Gertrude Nyipir from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), who informed the court that the DPP had directed that the accused be tried before the High Court.

The prosecution alleges that Muhwezi, whose duties included keeping records of drugs and receiving deliveries in accordance with established procedures, failed to provide accountability.

According to court records, during an audit, he could not account for various drugs that were reportedly delivered to Rukunyu Health IV.

"The audit found that in several instances, the quantities of drugs delivered were less than recorded, and the received drugs were fewer than the amounts indicated on the stock cards of Rukunyu Health Centre IV medical stores,” the indictment states.

Nyipir informed the court that the investigation into the matter has been concluded and that the prosecution is ready to try the accused.

“Your Worship, the inquiry into this matter is complete, and the prosecution seeks to commit the accused to the High Court for trial,” she stated.

The case has not yet been assigned to a judge, and the trial date is still to be set by the court.
