Inside Kibale chimp ‘civil war’

It is not clear exactly why the once close-knit community of Ngogo chimpanzees are at loggerheads, but since 2018, the scientists have recorded 24 killings, including 17 infants.

Some of the Chimpanzees pant hooting in their search for food. Experts say such fights have always been part of the social dynamics in large communities of about 150 individuals. These conflicts are mainly driven by competition over resources.
