Indian diaspora in Uganda in support of Narendra Modi's third term bid

Indians in the diaspora (Overseas friends of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)- Uganda) are rallying support for the ruling Party, Bharatiya Janata Party  (BJP) ahead of Indian general elections slated for April 19 to June 1.

This is the largest-ever election in history, surpassing the 2019 Indian general, and will last 44 days. The incumbent Prime minister, Narendra Modi, who completed his second term is contesting for a third consecutive term.

Overseas Friends of Bhartiya Janata Party (OFBJP)-Uganda president, Mehta Paresh said their members are rallying support for the ruling BJP party in India.

“We are already campaigning on different fora both online and physically to all Indian communities in Uganda. We petition them to support the ruling BJP for the economic, social, and development transformation in India,” he said.

Members of Overseas Friends of Bhartiya Janata Party (OFBJP)- Uganda last week participated in an event where they showed solidarity and support toward the current ruling BJP party.

Some participants held placards showing support for Prime Minister Modi. They assembled and walked in lines as they chanted “AAB KI BAAR 400 PAAR, MODI HE TO MUNKIN HE, VOTE FOR BJP AND BHARAT MATA KI JAY. About 970 million individuals out of the population of 1.44 billion are eligible to participate in the elections.

Indian High Commissioner, Shri Upender Singh Rawat said that India is seen as a destination for quality and affordable education by Ugandans. “The Government of India offers scholarships and fellowships to Ugandans from the Government and private sector to enable them to pursue undergraduate, post-graduate, and research courses in India,” he said.

India also conducts training courses for Uganda’s defence personnel including Army Training Team led by a Brigadier and consisting of two Colonels and one Group Captain stationed at UPDF Army’s Senior Command and Staff College, Kimaka since February 2010. END ITEMS.

India and Uganda have established close friendship and bilateral relationships in the past 10 years during Mondi’s government.
