A devastating incident has shaken the Southern cell in Central Division, Masindi Municipality, after two children aged between one and four lost their lives in an electrocution accident.
The tragedy occurred on Monday, September 15, 2025, at around 1pm near a furniture workshop.
According to eyewitnesses, the children, belonging to Anita Juliet Kusemererwa, a respected teacher at Asaba Nursery and Primary School Masindi, were playing near the workshop when the accident happened.
Preliminary reports indicate that a tenant, only identified as Tom, had illegally connected live wires to the workshop’s metallic door, leading to the fatal electrocution.
Godfrey Musindi, the LC1 chairperson for Southern cell, expressed his shock and concern over the incident, warning community members about the dangers of illegally extending or connecting electricity from meter boxes.
"We have lost innocent children who would have made a significant contribution to our community in the future," he lamented.
Joseph Karwani, the OC CID at Masindi Central Police Station, condemned the act of connecting live wires, assuring that a thorough investigation would be carried out to ensure justice is served.
Pensive Tukasiima, the District Police Commander (DPC) of Masindi, commended residents for remaining calm and urged them to cooperate with the police to apprehend the suspect.
Tukasiima also appealed to community members not to take the law into their own hands if they encounter the suspect, but instead inform the police.
"We will investigate this case thoroughly and ensure justice is served," she assured.
"The incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of electrical safety and the need for vigilance in preventing such tragedies. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the grieving family and the community," added Tukasiima.
Police are currently investigating the matter, and efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect responsible for the illegal electrical connection.
