In his heyday, musicians King Michael, Big Eye and Weasel, as well as comedian Alex Muhangi,  among others, became his stooges, going everywhere he went in branded Bryan White Foundation T-shirts.  This scenario later came to be popularly known as the 'podium'.

Socialite Brian Kirumira, popularly known as Bryan White, who was known for dishing out money to the public, mainly celebrities and youth, has returned to the country after a three-year hiatus.

In an interview with New Vision at the Kampala Serena Hotel on April 16, he expressed disappointment that many of the people he helped turned their backs on him.

In 2019, White surfaced on the Ugandan social scene as a philanthropist, with no known source of income, and started a foundation - Bryan White Foundation - to allegedly alleviate poverty. He often appeared in public with stashes of cash, which he splashed to those around him.

In his heyday, comedian Alex Muhangi, as well as singers King Michael, Big Eye and Weasel, among others, became his stooges, going everywhere he went in branded Bryan White Foundation T-shirts.  This scenario later came to be popularly known as the 'podium'.

The pomp was shortlived in 2020 as White got embroiled in criminal cases involving rape, torture and attempted murder. He consequently served time in jail.

"I felt heartbroken because I had been there for so many people who needed my help, expecting that they would support me. In the end, I decided to go to Dubai and rest. Thats's where I have been," White said.

As an example, he lamented that he built the grave site of singer Mowzey Radio, but he was not appreciated for the act.

"I was his fan. I am the reason why people still visit his grave because I invested money in it, but there are some people who do not appreciate my work. This time, I  will be more keen on who I give money, White stated.

On whether, he would bring back the artistes on the podium, he said: "I will not use them. I helped them the last time and I think they got what they wanted from me," White said.

He said this time, he is a new person, vowing to only give money to the village folk.

"They are appreciative unlike Kampala people," White said.

Whether or not he still has the financial muscle he used to have remains to be seen.
