HOIMA - Hundreds of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom subjects on Saturday morning participated in this year’s Empango run.

The run was flagged off at the kingdom headquarters in Hoima City by Andrew Byakutaga, the Kingdom's Prime Minister, and hundreds of Kingdom subjects from various districts within Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom participated.

The marathon is one of the pre-activities to commemorate Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru’s 31st coronation anniversary, also known as Empango, slated for June 11th, at the Kingdom Palace.

Byakutaga said the proceeds from the Marathon will be used to purchase a cancer testing machine to support Hoima Regional Referral Hospital.

Byakutaga applauded the Kingdom's subjects for embracing the run, stating that it helps to improve their physical fitness and also freely interact for peace and unity.

“As a kingdom, we have been organising these activities to raise money to support our health centres, and over the years we have purchased medical equipment for our health centres in all the districts within the kingdom,” he said.

Dr. Joseph Ruyonga, the Hoima West Division Member of Parliament, applauded the Kingdom subjects for showing love to their King by turning up in big numbers.

“I am happy that the number of participants in the Empango run has been increasing each year because people love and respect their kingdom,” Ruyonga said.

Pius Wakabi, the Bugahya county member of parliament, challenged the Kingdom's subjects to always conduct physical exercise routinely for their better health.

The coronation anniversary, also known as Empango, is commemorated on June 11th annually to celebrate the day Iguru ascended to the throne.

Hundreds of people are expected to flock to the palace to attend the function on Wednesday (11th June).
