HOIMA - Hoima district local government has commissioned the disbursement of shillings 2.75 billion Parish Development Model (PDM) funds to 55 parishes in the district.
The exercise started on Monday (July 7) in Kisukuma and Bombo parishes, where sh500m has so far been disbursed to ten parishes within two days.
Dr Charles Kajura, the Hoima District Production Officer, who is also the PDM focal person, said that each parish is entitled to get sh50m, implying that the 55 parishes that make up Hoima district will all receive sh750m.
"We are giving out money to every parish in the district, and we are appealing to the beneficiaries to use the money productively," Kajura said.
He said the process started with Kisukuma on Monday and Bombo sub-counties on Tuesday, where practical training centres (PTC) were also commissioned to train and equip PDM beneficiaries with practical and hands-on skills in their areas of enterprise.
While commissioning the disbursement of funds exercise, the Hoima Deputy RDC, Michael Kyakashari Muramira, warned the program beneficiaries against squandering the funds in nonproductive activities.
"We shall arrest anyone who misuses the money because this money is supposed to help the beneficiaries start up small projects within their homes," Kyakasgari said.
He urged the beneficiaries to continue supporting the NRM government because it’s also committed to ensuring that people have eradicated poverty through promotion of household income initiatives like PDM.
The Hoima LCV Chairperson, Uthuman Mugisha, said the only way to maximise the benefits of PDM funds for the beneficiaries is to invest it in enterprises with quick and high returns, like animal rearing.
According to Kajura, the disbursement exercise will continue until mid-August 2025, when all 55 parishes will have been covered.
