The Ministry of Health is mainly targeting key populations, to ease access to HIV testing and reduce associated stigma.

Dr. Robert Mutumba, the Assistant Commissioner/Program Manager of the STD/AIDS Control Program told New Vision on May 8, 2024, that although Uganda has made significant strides in addressing the problem, new HIV infections still exceed AIDS mortality.

He said the Ministry of Health is implementing a robust response premised on a combination of HIV prevention including structural, behaviour, and biomedical intervention.

Statistics indicate that 11 percent of persons living with HIV in Uganda were unaware of their HIV status.

The prevalence of HIV among adults aged 15 to 64 in Uganda is 6.2%: 7.6% among females and 4.7% among males. This corresponds to approximately 1.2 million people aged 15 to 64 living with HIV in Uganda.
