Growing knowledge, protecting wealth
✍️Reporting by Umar Nsubuga:
As gates opened for the 10th edition of the Harvest Money Expo, one message rang clear across the exhibition grounds: knowledge is the most valuable seed a farmer can plant. For a decade, the expo, organised by Vision Group in partnership with the Embassy of the Netherlands in Uganda, has been more than a showcase of tractors, seedlings and livestock. It has served as a classroom for Ugandans determined to turn agriculture into profitable and sustainable businesses.
One of the most attended sessions on the opening day of the 10th edition was led by Matia Mugerwa, an agriculture officer from the agriculture ministry. His presentation focused on the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and what it means for Uganda’s coffee farmers.

Black soldier flies, an affordable answer to animal feed
✍️Reporting by Jackie Nalubwama:
There is no end to what you can learn about farming. Aptly themed Farming as a Business, the Harvest Money Expo will give farmers and green enthusiasts some hacks to cut costs and reap bountifully at harvest. For example, students of Iganga Secondary School have demonstrated how to enrich feeds for poultry and animals using black solider flies.
“We sell larvae and pupae to agricultural institutions for practical lessons. We also supply them to farmers as feeds for poultry, fish and pigs,” said Cindy Wanyanze, a Senior Four student at the school.
The black soldier flies grow quickly, within a week, just like the life cycle of an ordinary insect. This means the larvae and pupae are quickly harvested and animals get their feed rather fast. ______________________________

Farmers hunt business opportunities at expo
✍️Reporting by Richard Ategeka:
Excitement and anticipation filled the air at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds as hundreds of farmers, agripreneurs and exhibitors streamed through the gates for the 10th edition of the Harvest Money Expo.
With this year’s theme, Farming as a Business, the three-day event has again proven why it remains Uganda’s leading agricultural exhibition, bringing together cutting-edge technologies, practical demonstrations, financial institutions and real-life success stories under one roof.
Organised by Vision Group, the expo runs until Sunday and is supported by partners including Tunga Nutrition, Engineering Solutions (ENGSOL), Uganda Development Corporation, aBi Development, Pearl Bank, Heifer International and Roke Telkom, the agriculture ministry, as well as the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA).
From soil health innovations to animal feed processing machines and pest-control solutions, Day One offered farmers not just ideas, but practical answers to the challenges limiting productivity and profits.

10 years on, Harvest Money Expo still rules
✍️Reporting by Ibrahim Ruhweza:
Ten years ago, the Harvest Money Expo stood out as one of the best farming exhibitions. True to its slogan, Farming as a Business, most expo-goers say their businesses have grown beyond their expectations because of interacting with it. The expo’s 10th edition is taking place at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds, having got under way on Friday and will be running until Sunday.
Emmanuel Mukisa, the Orchard Camp farm manager, says they have participated in the expo for the last seven years and can attest to the positive experiences since the day they first attended. “We have seen a big transformation in our business. When we first came here, we could only farm on one acre. Now we have a 16-acre farm."
Auntie Porridge’s public relations and marketing representative says they have participated in the expo since its first edition. Referrals after the expo have helped the company grow. However, she recommends continuous advertising of the event, not only to farmers, but to all Ugandans who have businesses alongside farming.
For Ranchers Finest, a three-year-old company dealing in meat products, they expect to connect with new customers. “We wanted exposure because we are new on the market, and we hope to offer quality products to all customers,” says product marketing head Dinah Nyakato.
Ben Tamale, a 50-year-old farmer from Buwama in Mpigi district, says while in the village, he unknowingly bought fake seeds that hardly grew and eventually cost him money. Having heard constant advertisements on New Vision and Vision Group media platforms, he chose to be among the first to attend the 10th edition of the expo. He says the expo is exciting, and he has already bought 38kg of maize seed (Bazuka maize). ______________________________

'Govt to improve budget allocation to agriculture'
✍️Reporting by Jacky Achan:
The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, has commended Vision Group for consistently organising the Harvest Money Expo, which she described as an important initiative bringing all people in agriculture in Uganda together to undertake value addition.
“I am so impressed with the equipment and agricultural machinery that are being exhibited at the expo. As government, we will improve our budget allocation to agriculture, which is the sector that employees the largest number of Ugandans, to make it more productive and profitable to Ugandans," she said.
Among emphasised that value addition and mechanisation are the only way to boost agricultural production and earnings from the sector. She encouraged more Ugandans to visit the Harvest Money Expo 2026 to learn everything about agriculture - from value addition to mechanisation of agriculture. All this is being carried out in one venue, geared at boosting agricultural production and turning it into a profitable venture.

'The fridge has charcoal'
✍️Reporting by Jackie Nalubwama:
One of the innovations at the expo is the zero-energy cooler, a creation by Iganga Secondary School, which cools the school’s vegetables using sustainable methods. Suzan Asio, a Senior Six student, explains how it works.
“The fridge has charcoal. When warm air blows, the charcoal traps it, leaving the inner space cool.”
To ensure that the fridge does not heat up, Asio says they pour water on the charcoal to keep it damp so that it can easily absorb the warm air efficiently. Simple local materials make this fridge an efficient innovation.
