Gunmen raid mobile money shop in Kalisiszo, rob over sh150m

KYOTERA - Police in Kalisizo, Kyotera district are investigating a case of aggravated robbery after four unknown gunmen raided a mobile money shop and reportedly made off with over shillings 150 million on Thursday night.

It is reported that the four robbers came raided the shop at about 7:30pm dressed in black uniforms, blue jackets, with masked faces.

The robbers shot bullets in the air to scare the mobile money shop attendants and the people nearby and later retreated towards Kalisizo park yard where it is suspected they had a waiting vehicle, according to Twaha Kasirye, the acting Greater Masaka Police region spokesperson.

At the time of the attack, two employees of the mobile money shop were found inside the shop reconciling the books of account.

Frank Lwanga, 29, the owner of the shop, who reported the case to the Kalisizo Police station, said he has lost over shillings 200 million.

"I have lost over shillings 200 million, but I thank God that my employees and I are still alive," Lwanga said.

John Balikuddembe, a resident of Kalisizo, said he hid in a tent near the shop when the robbers raided the shop. He added that the robbers shot the tyres of his motorcycle that was parked just next to the shop.  

Kasirye said Police recovered two bullet cartridges from the scene and are still hunting for the gunmen.
