Stakeholders along the grain value chain have been given an opportunity to become more efficient and competitive in the regional market.

This follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Grain Council of Uganda (TGCU) and an Indian-based company known as StarAgri, with the aim of creating a solution for providing integrated post-harvest services to the agri-value chain players such as; smallholder farmers, millers, traders and consumers.

The function was held on Thursday at Serena Kampala Hotel and was attended by various government officials led by Geraldine Ssali, the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Cooperatives.

Ssali thanked the Grain Council body for entering into a strategic partnership with credible companies such as StarAgric to help grains value chain stakeholders realise better prices through a warehouse receipt system that is going to be introduced in different farming communities across the country.

"We appreciate TGCU for such initiatives because they are aimed at helping agri-value chain players such as smallholder farmers to become more efficient and competitive in the market hence getting better prices from their commodities," said Ssali, after witnessing the signing ceremony.

The function was also attended by officials from UNBS led by managing director Livingstone Ebiru as well as Deborah Kyarasiime the managing director of Uganda Warehouse Receipt System Authority, who pledged to support this partnership for the greater good of grain value chain players in Uganda.
