Ugandans should seize the numerous wealth-creation opportunities and change their mindset to attain prosperity.

This transformative approach is seen as key to enhancing the quality of life for individuals, regardless of their religion or diverse political affiliations, the Minister of State for Privatization and Investment, Evelyn Anite, has said.

"Regardless of your political affiliation, whether you are part of the ruling NRM or in the opposition, there are ample financial resources at the government's disposal. Failing to make the most of the low interest rates offered by the Uganda Development Board (UDB), tapping into the Parish Development Fund (PDF), Emyoga, and the untapped resources allocated for post-COVID-19 recovery programs would be a disservice born of ignorance," the minister said.

"Our goal is to unravel the intricacies of the PPDA (Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets) process, providing insights into the steps required to secure government tenders, outlining the opportunities for emerging service providers, and highlighting the pivotal role played by this authority in the procurement process," she added.

She made the remarks at a meeting in the ministry's boardroom, where Benson Turamye, the executive director of PPDA, observed the need for the government's commitment to facilitate citizens' involvement in business.

"Efforts are being made to prioritize service providers from within the country, especially focusing on the wanainchi (ordinary citizens). However, there are significant challenges like the lack of the necessary qualifications to compete for advertised opportunities, such as business registration, capital requirements, and keeping of books of accounts. This makes many miss projects they could have handled, like a sh10b worth of public toilets, school blocks, or hospital wards. It's worth noting that there are designated slots for youth and women-owned enterprises," Turamye disclosed.

The Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Uganda Investment Authority (UIA), Morrison Rwakakamba, painstakingly detailed the incentives in place.
