KAMPALA - Uganda government has launched the Enhancement Programme for Traditional Leaders, a drive aimed at enhancing their development programs.
The new campaign was unveiled this morning at Kololo Independence Grounds, where the Vice President Jessica Alupo handed over new vehicles to individual cultural leaders to boost grassroots mobilisation.
The project under the theme: “Repositioning Cultural Institutions for Community Mobilisation & Socio-Economic Transformation", is supervised by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development (MGLSD), headed by minister Betty Amongi Akena.

MGLSD's mandate is to empower citizens to maximise their individual and collective potential by developing skills, increasing labour productivity, and cultural enrichment to achieve sustainable and gender-sensitive development.
“This initiative demonstrates Government’s commitment to preserving our heritage, promoting cultural identity, and empowering cultural leaders to effectively mobilise communities for social and economic transformation,” said Amongi earlier today.

The leaders at the event included: Paramount Chief of Acholi, Rwot David Onen Acana II, Katukiiro of Busoga Kingdom, Dr. Joseph Muvawala, and Deputy Katikkiro of Buganda, Robert Waggwa Nsibirirwa.
