They include among several others the Order of St. Benedict, the Missionaries of Africa (White Fathers), the Jesuits, Opera Family of Nazareth, the Bannakarooli Brothers, the Bannabiikira Sisters, the Brothers of Christian Instruction, the Dominicans, the Little Sisters of St Francis, Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Reparatrix, the Banyatereza, Consolata Fathers, the Servants oh Mary, etc.

These congregation are doing very good work in the areas of education, health, social work and Christian evangelism.

The former Apostolic Nuncio to Belgium and Luxembourg, His Excellency Archbishop Augustine Kasujja fully acknowledges the dynamic ministry of these religious institutes.

Interestingly though, he believes the ministry of these institutes can become even more impactful if they strengthen their commitment to the service of the poorest of the poor, the people at the periphery of society.

During the celebration of the Kampala Archdiocesan day of the religious at Rubaga Cathedral on Sunday (February 5, 2023), Kasujja put it to the religious priests, Brothers and Sisters to leave the comfort of the urban areas, go out to the rural areas, where people are in greater need of liberation from spiritual, intellectual and material poverty.

Kasujja attributed the increasing enslavement of the rural people to the absence of Catholic institutions, which have always offered people ideal guidance and liberation.

The celebration started with a solemn mass presided over by the Archbishop of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Kampala, the Most Rev. Paul Ssemogerere, who paid tribute to the Catholic missionary congregations for their dynamic ministry.

Ssemogerere asked the religious men and women to be even more committed to the evangelical counsels that they took at their consecration. He further asked them to take the love of God to the people, starting right from their religious houses.

After mass, the religious men and women gathered at the residence of the Archbishop, where they interacted freely as they discussed their ministries and the respective challenges they face. At least 44 congregations were represented at the function.

Earlier during mass, the religious men and women renewed their religious vows of poverty, chastity and obedience and pledged to serve God and the Church with even greater zeal.
