Karting as a sport will now be much more visible on the track than it has been for the previous decade  Since its inception in Uganda in 2003.

Following the introduction of the sport by enthusiastic fans of Formula 1 in Uganda, the disciplines including Go-Kart have been watched on television and nothing has been visible on the track.

However, starting last year, activities started taking place in Busiika, Bugolobi, and then Lubowa. Now the  Formula 1 Association of Uganda has taken a huge step to have the Karting discipline developed in the country.

Three national Go-Kart championships and more non-championship events will be organised by the Formula1 Association of Uganda as they promote the sport in the country.

Vice President Albert Ofwong disclosed this to the media during the launch of the association activity calendar in Bugolobi at the Mekaki Karting Racetrack on Sunday.

“We shall start our competitions in May with the Lubowa circuit, then in June and September. However, to give quality products to our fans, there will be several non-championship events to prepare competitors for the championship events,” he explained.

“Together with our neighbours Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda, we are aiming at starting the East Africa championship. So, these competitions will help us build strong teams in the region,” Ofwong added.

Go-Kart competitions will be held in categories including junior, Intermediate, and seniors according to age and strength of the karting engine.

According to Ofwong, the competitions will be held based on the regulations being set up by all three East African countries and FIA regulations because they will soon participate in regional and continental competitions.
