Gen Kainerugaba donates his allowance for classroom block construction

The Chief of Defence Forces and Special Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has donated his official allowances to fund the construction of a new classroom block and a comprehensive renovation of existing structures at Bombo Barracks Nursery and Primary School.

The contribution, totalling sh300m, includes scholastic materials and infrastructure support. The cheque was formally handed over to the school administration by the CDF’s Military Assistant, Col Christopher Muwumba.

The UPDF, in a statement, said the announcement marks the first fulfilment of a commitment Gen Kainerugaba made upon assuming office: to dedicate the allowances attached to his position to public interventions where there is a clear and pressing need.

The Joint Staff Formal Education, Sports and Culture, Brig Gen Richard Karemire, described the contribution as a timely and significant boost in the quest to improve the learning environment for soldiers’ children.

“This money could have gone elsewhere, but the CDF committed it towards the education of our children.”

He thanked Gen Kainerugaba for his continued focus on supporting the welfare of soldiers and their families, many of whom have children at Bombo Barracks Nursery and Primary School.

He noted that Bombo Barracks Primary School holds a unique place within the force because most of its more than 800 learners are children of soldiers.

Brig Gen Karemire urged the engineers to ensure the timely completion of the construction and rehabilitation work. He also highlighted other UPDF school projects being supported by the CDF, including the construction of Ruhengyere Army Primary School and the rehabilitation of Lira Army Primary School.

Col Muwumba said the support for Bombo Barracks Nursery and Primary School is only the beginning and represents more than just a financial contribution.

“This represents a shared investment in the future, in the young minds of our nation. This is not just to the military fraternity but to the wider community we serve,” he said.

He added that in the coming days and months, the initiative will extend to other worthy causes, aligning with broader government programs and the Uganda People’s Defence Forces’ (UPDF) spirit of altruism.

He emphasised that improving education in barracks communities enhances morale and confidence among soldiers and strengthens their ability to serve the country effectively. He also called on teachers, parents, and the surrounding community to safeguard the facilities and maintain close cooperation with the school administration.

The handover event was attended by the school administration, teachers, parents, staff, and learners.
