KAMPALA - Police have launched investigations into an aggravated robbery in Kansanga, Makindye Division, Kampala city, where a mobile money agent, Eunice Diana Nekesa, was attacked and robbed on Thursday, January 23, 2025.
The incident comes just two weeks after six motorcycle-riding robbers were gunned down in an alleged botched heist at Acacia Mall in Kololo, Kampala.
According to Police reports, Nekesa was ambushed by a gang riding on four motorcycles at about 10:00am while on her way to her workplace in Kansanga.
She was travelling on a motorcycle registration number UDZ 199V Bajaji Boxer ridden by Lukas Segahima when the assailants struck, according to Police.
The attack
The Closed-Circuit Television footage, which has since gone viral on social media, captures the chilling precision with which a gang of robbers executed their attack on Nekesa.
The video begins with the gang arriving on motorcycles, stopping at a distance to avoid suspicion. One by one, they dismount and proceed to walk in a single file, their movement co-ordinated and deliberate, resembling a military routine.
As the victim, Nekesa, is dropped off by a boda rider, the gang closes in. Nekesa, unaware of their presence, begins to disembark from the motorcycle.
At that moment, one of the thugs pretends to walk past her nonchalantly, but then swiftly turns around, delivering a forceful left kick to her side. The unexpected blow sends Nekesa stumbling to the ground, disoriented.
While she struggles to regain balance, the gang quickly swoops in, grabbing her bag, which reportedly contained cash, smartphones, and other valuables. Within seconds, they retreat to their waiting motorcycles and speed off, leaving the victim and onlookers in shock.
Police report
The robbers made off with cash totalling shillings six million, three smartphones worth shillings four million, a wallet containing seven million, a watch valued at shillings 500,000, and several agent banking machines from Centenary, Stanbic and dfcu banks.
Nekesa’s national identity card and the banking machines were later recovered in the city suburb of Nalukolongo.
Police, using footage from surveillance cameras, identified the motorcycles involved in the robbery.
Co-ordination with local boda riders led to the impounding of motorcycles UGT 557T in Bukoto and UGJ 820A in Kawempe.
Two suspects, Sam Okecho, and Ashiraf Lubega, were arrested in connection with the robbery, according to Police.
“The recovered motorcycles and arrests have provided critical leads in our investigation,” Police said, confirming that inquiries are ongoing under CRB 089/2025.
A source said the motorcycles in these robberies have been cited in other incidents also under probe.
This robbery follows the arrest of two suspects: Muzamiru Kamoga and Fahad Katongole, linked to a spate of violent heists in Kampala. The suspects, now in custody, are accused of stealing shillings 628 million across five robberies in both Kampala and Wakiso.
Kamoga and Katongole were apprehended during a botched shillings 500 million robbery at Acacia Mall in Kisementi, Kololo, on January 9, 2025.
Six of their accomplices were killed during the operation, including Michael Ssebaka, Khamis Muhammed (aka Chemical), Shafik Lukwago, Innocent Tuyisabe, Maniriho Zake, and Fahdi Kawesa.
Police continue to track down the remaining suspects involved in the Kansanga robbery as they intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks operating in the region.
