Aug 20, 2023

Preliminary investigations indicate that the trailer was heading to Kampala from Gulu side when it suddenly veered off its course and into an illegal lane at Kikoona, causing a head-on collision with the Fuso lorry.

By press time, the wreckages of the vehicles were still at the scene pending the arrival of tow trucks from Kampala.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the trailer was heading to Kampala from Gulu side when it suddenly veered off its course and into an illegal lane at Kikoona, causing a head-on collision with the Fuso lorry.

According to Sam Twineamazima, the Savannah Division Police spokesperson, the crash claimed four lives on the spot and injured one other person.

The dead have been identified as Kharim Abdul Walugembe, 42, and Abbas Yiga, who was a passenger on the lorry.

Others are Adam Balyejusa, 27, and one unidentified male passenger who was also in the lorry.

The injured person was identified as Samuel Muwonge, 40, the driver of the trailer.

According to the Police, Muwonge is a resident of Natete in Kampala district.

"Upon getting the information, Police responded in time, visited the scene and documented the accident," Twineamazima said, adding that the victim was rushed to Nakasongola Health Centre IV for treatment and later referred to Mulago National Referral Hospital.
